Workshop

Using the Body:
Essential Technical Skills
for the Beginning Piano Student

“Meet the student where they are, not where you are,
and not where you want them to be, but where they really are.”

~
Francis Clark
What is piano technique? What do you believe about technique? What questions and confusions do you have about piano technique? Where do we start?

Begin by exploring with questions about piano technique.   What preconceived notions does the student already have? Whatever the answers are, that is how to proceed. How does the student use his body in every day life? It is important to acknowledge and accept the students’ ideas and to challenge their beliefs, when challenge is appropriate.

In this workshop you will explore the body and its relationship to the piano ~ and to life. Music is already in our body.  We merely have to recognize it,  and we need to help our students become aware of what their bodies are doing.

Workshop structure and cost:
Workshops are organized throughout the U.S. for groups up to 200 people. Sessions run from 2 hours to full-day and are customized according to the needs of the group. Fee: $120/hour.
